Polish & UI
Polish and UI
I am currently very happy with how the game is feeling and looking. Apart from a few outstanding bugs (that are causing much trouble) I feel as though the game is relatively polished. In addition, the past week was spent completing my other coursework as to create more time to work on this game! As such, today i don't have as many updates to report, rather, I will briefly note some of the work i will be completing in the following week to pull this game prototype together!!
UI elements that need implementing
- Game over screen / death animation
- Title Screen
- Boss Health bar and name (and implementation lol)
- Particle Trail for when the character has a speed boost
- More signs
- Pause Screen
Things to polish:
- There were a variety of bugs that became evident through the game testing session I intend to clean some of these up
- Camera routines and maybe cutscene camera... (if time)
- Lighting: i want to make the forest environment more dark and maybe use the particles as little glowing light sources.
- Sound effects: fill in the gaps in the sound effects. Such as, land sound, run sound, death sound, etc.
- Sound track: compose some music for the game!
- Lock the fishing rod behind game progression
Other Things:
- Enemies: a couple more enemy varieties to freshen up the game (i know i've been saying this for weeks but things have gotten in the way!)
- Checkpoints: checkpoints for when player dies/gets stuck in a wall... (maybe including a reset to checkpoint with [r])
- Boss Fight: I reallyyyyy want to include a boss fight
- Collectable: Maybe shells, or fish scales? Some kind of currency to be used in a later implementation but to give the player some more sustained dopamine release.
- Finish the level! Add the final platforming bits and adjust the difficulty curve of grapple related platforming.
Lastly - if time:
- A hard level for some people to flex their platforming prowess
- Maybe some more levels and enemies (but i doubt it)
This Dev Log was a quick one, but at this point i think it is more important that i am not overloading myself too much so that i can get everything done. The next week is going to be a big one and i sure do have my work cut out for me. We had a testing session on Friday that went well, more on that next week where i will be discussing the various feedback items i received and how i went about addressing them!
Happy Gaming!
